~Chapter 2: Mother May I?~
Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. That’s all I was being
right now. I knew I was being stupid because Henry was looking at me cross-eyed
right now. I mean who laughs at this type of situation really? I let out a sigh
and raked my hands through my hair. It took me a few minuets to adjust what was
going on here. The Legend: Charles Rayford was actually adopted? And I the
abandon Marco whatever my last name was is actually a Rayford. Wow. If only my
best friend Jugo could see me now.
“Are you alright?” Henry asked me after about five
minuets of silence.
“Yes I am
alright considering the fact that you are telling me that Marco whatever his
last name is, is actually the long lost son of the Rayford Enterprise” I rolled
my eyes and continued eating my pasta.
“Whatever your last name?” He asked me making me groan
in frustration.
“Yeah. See my supposed mother if you are implying that
it’s the Miss Sophia Rayford herself just dropped me off in Arkansas one day.
No birth certificate. Marco isn’t even my real name” I finally admitted to
Henry. Marco was a name given to me by my best friend Jugo and lost kids.
(That’s another story for later ladies and gents). I watched as a guard give
him a manila envelope and took out a piece of paper and handed it to me. I
hesitated at first to open it but then I decided to break the sea.
It was a document containing information of my childhood
from the time I was born to 15 years ago when I was abandon by that woman.
That’s where the information stops until around eight months ago. I took the
picture of the copper colored child with black hair and amber eyes only for
more pictures to fall out underneath. There was one of that child on his first
birthday with a man and woman by his side. I tossed that one to find another
with that same kid trying to learn how to ride a bike. There were more and more
pictures one from the first day of kindergarten to winning a contest for art or
something. I trembled as I pulled out a picture of a man who looked twenty
years younger than Henry with the same amber eyes as mine. And a woman hunched
down with her shoulders over a three year old child.
I was hesitant to flip over the back as I noticed before
that there were dates and descriptions of each event.
Young
Marco and mother Sophia and father Avery on his first day of pre-school. I
knew it was rude but I threw the picture on the floor and began to tremble.
“No” I said to no one in particular especially Henry who
looked at me with concern. He had been quiet the whole time I was stifling through
the pictures. I was broken from my trance when a voice called from the door.
“Henry?” the unrecognizable voice asked but Henry tried
to shoo them off…which failed.
“HENRY!” The voice said again and Henry gave me an
apologetic look as he opened the two double doors.
“Is he here?” the voice grew louder as well as the sound
of high heels on the ground. I recognized the voice as a woman a voice anybody
from the country could here. The owner of the highest selling beauty products
in the world. A woman who owns her very own mall. This woman is also my mother
and she is also the one who abandon me. Sophia Rayford. Her warm smile is the
first thing I saw and I nearly gasped as she was a carbon copy of me. From her
long black hair to her high cheekbones. To her round eyes to her heart shaped
face. My trembling became more rapid. How could this woman who abandon me all
those years ago face me with a smile?
“Good day dear!” she said happily but all I could do is
frown at her in disgust. She folded her arms as she walked over to me but
before she could reach I got up and pushed the cart of food out of my way
knocking it over and making her step back.
“Marco” she pleaded with sad tear filled eyes. This
woman dare states my name? My eyes shot daggers at her unable as I tried to
calm myself down. Henry walked over to us as a maid came in to clean up the
mess but he shooed her away.
“Young Master this is Sop-“ was all Henry managed to say
before I walked backwards and headed to the door.
“First off. I am not your long lost stupid young master.
And two I know who this woman is. I don’t care how many millions of dollars you
spent tracking me. You’re seriously claiming that you are my mother? If you are
I loathe you. How could you fucking abandon a SIX YEAR OLD! You are a poor excuse
for a parent and mother and I refuse to take over this stupid empire of yours.
I rather sit and watch it crumble beneath my feet” I didn’t realize that my
eyes were avoid her gaze. But when I looked up at her all I could see that the
tears that formed in her eyes finally spilled.
“Marco” she said again and reached out a hand to me but
I smacked it away. Seriously though? How could she ever think that I would
accept her?
“P-please understand I was young and I had just started
my career” I rolled my eyes at her. So
that was the reason she gave me up? Because she couldn’t handle me?
“It’s not like you gave me up when I was a baby. You
gave me up when I was SIX FUCKING YEARS OLD!” I pushed her out of the way at
the end of that argument and ran through the doors she came out of. I was
immediately smacked into the kitchen and I analyzed the area I was in. I found
a set of double doors and walked through before walking to another sitting area
to find Charles and that idiot Joe. They were looking at a map or something when
Joe looked up and saw me and glared.
“Did you have to be so loud?” he said rubbing the back
of his head. My face grew red with guilt as I turned slowly to my “brother” his
expression was unreadable and I couldn’t help but feel more guilty. But ignored
it.
“Where is the exit? This house is maze!” I threw up my
arms to symbolize how big it is. Joe looked at Charles but he didn’t meet his
gaze.
“Why do you want to know where the exit is?” he asked me
and I just glared at him again.
“That’s none of your business now is there?” I asked him
and he just shook his head. I growled in frustration at Joe.
“I want to L-E-A-V-E there are you happy?” I asked and I
rolled my eyes again at Joe who continued to shook his head. I looked at
Charles who exchanged Joe’s glance.
“Well I hate to break it to you but you can’t leave” he
said before sitting down in a red velvet chair. My anger intensified.
“What DO YOU MEAN I CAN’T LEAVE!?” I asked them this
time Charles let out a breath before he began to speak. He also pulled out
another manila envelope similar to Henry but it had the Rayford seal on it.
“As of today you are property of the Rayford family.
Well not property but you’ve been claimed” I let my mouth fall to the floor.
Property? Was I seriously property to these assholes?
“What do you mean?” I said stupidly.
“Sophia Rayford has claimed you as her biological son.”
I sank down into a couch as I began to tremble in fear. How could this have
happened to me?
